Oklahoma Strong Family Fun Event – How You Can Help

Moore

Where to begin?  What started out as a Teddy Bear drive that the US Universal Pageant decided to put together to collect Teddy Bears for the children in Moore, OK to give them some comfort and something to hang on to, has turned into something so much larger!  In my searches to find an organization that would take the high volume of bears that we had collected, I came across the FB page for OklahomaStrong and posted on their wall.  They responded shortly after, and we now had a home for our bears that would put them into the arms of the children that need them most!  Little did I know the extent of where this would lead!  Before we even got to Oklahoma, I exchanged texts with Amber and learned a bit more about the event that she is planning, and I of course offered my assistance with getting queens to the event to make it even more special than what was already being planned.  Upon arriving in Oklahoma to drop off the bears, Amanda and I met Kurt who was more than willing to drive us around and show us exactly what damage the city of Moore, and surrounding areas, and endured in the tornadoes.  The devastation was horrible!  We then had an amazing brainstorming session with both Kurt and Amber so that we could get a better idea of what they were already planning, and how we could help.  This is where all of you come in!!

The event will be held at the Journey Convenant Church in Norman, OK on July 25th.  They are expecting approximately 1500 kids for this family fun event.  Jostens, Lifetouch and Bluck’s are reprinting all of the yearbooks and pictures for the students that attended Plaza Towers and Briarwood Elementary Schools.  The students will have the opportunity to sign each others’ yearbooks.  Amber thought it would be fun if there were also celebrities there to help make it more special and sign their yearbooks as well, and that’s where any titleholders that are able to attend will be used!

There will be many local resources there for the parents to meet with while the kids are all having fun on the many inflatables and other activities that will be there for them to enjoy their day.

Here is where we need your help!  We would like to continue collecting as many Teddy Bears as possible, so that we might be able to give them out to as many of these precious children as possible.  We’re also asking for your help in collecting little tiaras that we can give to as many of the girls as possible.  It would be GREAT if each of the queens that are able to attend could collect them and bring them with them.  We are looking to collect approximately 750 tiaras.  If you can’t attend, but would like to send some to be used, contact me for my address!

We would also like to be able to send each teacher away with a “Starter Kit” for their new classrooms.  If you’ve ever taught, are a teacher, or know a teacher, you know how important their classrooms are to them, and these teachers all now need to start over in a new school.  We have set up an Amazon Wish List, and I can provide everyone with an address to ship things directly to the church for the event.  If you would like me to send you a list of the items we are looking for and the number of teachers, I can 🙂  The wishlist can be found at:  http://www.amazon.com/registry/wishlist/DS9XZN0M75RQ/

If you are the author of an age appropriate book for elementary students, and would like to donate print books for the students and/or classrooms, please visit:  http://bookgoodies.com/books-for-oklahoma/

I understand that it’s not possible for all of the titleholders that I know to come to the event, but we’ve come up with a way to let you be a part of it still.  If you would like to send me autographed photos that are no larger than 8×10, I will be putting together bags to hand out to the kids.  Let’s show Oklahoma just what the pageant world can do and that we support them in their efforts to rebuild.

Please contact me if you are able to come to the event on July 25th, have items to donate and need an address, or need my address to send photos to!!

*****PLEASE NOTE:  This is a private, invite only event!  This is NOT an invite to the general public.
